The New Operating Rhythm

Okay, we’ve been doing this now for 7 weeks!

We’ve achieved a new operating rhythm. I’m curious as to what’s working for you and what has been challenging? I know for me, I miss being able to go from meeting to meeting and place to place, getting quality conversations with people and being inspired by the action I see people taking at the various work sites. One thing that I have enjoyed is that I am much more efficient!  I am often able to focus more and accomplish working on hard tasks that I might struggle with during normal times.

Leaders, I want you to start thinking about what your operating rhythm will be like when your people start returning to the workplace.

What will meetings look like?

Will you need as many meetings?

In the future, will more of your workforce be working remotely?

How will your employees balance working and continuing to teach their kids?

What if daycares are not open?

It’s also critical that you let go of some of your 2020 goals and ask your team what’s possible now.

Many of us have had life changing events in the past 7 weeks and will continue to have life changing events over the next few weeks. It will be important to understand where everyone is when they come back. I know of those who have lost loved ones, are battling cancer, and many that will be missing high school graduations, sport seasons, and once in a lifetime vacations. Thus if we come back and just jump right back into work as we did in early March, we will be out of step with our team, customers and our community.

So dear leader, please start asking these types of questions of your team and start planning for what that new operating rhythm will look like when you get back to the workplace.

This past week we hosted a Working from Home Webinar. Here’s a link if you’d like to watch it, as well as a link to a free assessment if you’d like to take it.

I believe there will be some version of working from home permanently now. I think this assessment and webinar can and will serve as tools to help your understanding of your personal and our society’s new operating rhythm.

We are all learning together, so please reach out and share best practices, challenging situations, and open questions you have about this new working environment that we will all be living in. Keep social distancing, keep laughing, and I recommend taking time to do a GAP analysis every day. A quick reminder for those who are new to GAP:

G -> Gratitude – What is one thing you are grateful for?

A -> Appreciation – Who do you appreciate? Why? Now, tell them!

P-> Proud – What is something you are proud of?

We’re also curious about how we can best support you. Please let us know what topics you would be interested in or webinars that you’d join in for.
